Education to stop early marriage for children in Timis

Violation of children rights through forced marriages and early school dropout in the gypsy community from Timis. Two hard facts and also reasons for a meeting to be held Tuesday, November 15 in Banloc, a village by the Serbian frontier.


This Tuesday, November 15th, in Banloc school, Sorina Seine, researcher from the European Roma Rights Center, is holding a meeting with members of the Roma community from the area.
"The goal of this action is to inform the Rom population about the serious violations done to children rights by the practice of early forced marriages and, at the same time, to insist on the importance of local authorities in the application of international and national laws regarding the minimum age required for marriage. In addition, we aim to promote and protect the rights of Rom women and children by preventing and fighting against forced early marriages along with school dropout both at local and regional levels." said Sorina Seine.
The European Roma Rights Center, based in Budapest, is currently conducting a study on the practice of early forced marriages in the Roma community from Banloc, in the Timis countyParticipants expected for Tuesday's community event are representatives for the defense of the rights of women and children, local authorities and members of the local Roma community.
